Would you like a chance to get involved in the local
community? Want to do something that will let you practice your
Chinese translation or interpretation skills? Want to have fun and
do something meaningful at the same time?
TSUEI MA MA Foundation for Housing and Community Servicess (or
TMM Foundation) is a non-profit organization which runs a community
housing rental and related services in Taipei. If you’ve lived in
Taipei for while, you might have used its services. If you haven’t,
these are some of the valuable services which TMM Foundation provides
to all its members for a nominal cost:-
- A database of all types of accommodation available for rent
in the Taipei area (including houses, apartments, rooms, etc)
- Tenancy agreement
- Advice and information on tenants and landlords’ housing rights
in Taiwan
- Legal consultation: Settling housing disputes between landlords
and tenants
- Advice and information on moving houses
Most of these information is only available in Chinese. However,
TMM is aware of the difficulties which many foreigners have in finding
accommodation, so it is aiming to make these information available
in a variety of languages. Toward this end, it is seeking volunteers
in the following areas:-
- Translators: Translating Chinese language materials into foreign
languages (print and on-line)
- Interpreters: English and other foreign languages speaking
volunteers wanted to help non-Chinese speakers who require housing
assistance and advices.
- Editors: Some materials have already been written in English,
but they require a good edit
What can TMM Foundation offer you?
Working at TMM is a great way to meet some really cool people
in the local community, and to give something back. The emphasis
is on enjoyment - you’ll only be required to do what you have the
time for and what you feel comfortable with. You might prefer to
do work at home, or you might enjoy the camaraderie by working at
TMM’s office - it’s up to you! And the big bonus: the Friday night
free feast!
